BeagleBoard.org® Trademark Usage Guidelines

 

The BeagleBoard.org® Foundation is dedicated to providing education in and promotion of the design and use of open-source software and hardware in embedded computing. As part of this, we provide open-source software (e.g., firmware and/or operating system source code) and open-source hardware designs (e.g., schematics and PCB layouts) for our devices.

 

The BeagleBoard.org® Foundation owns each of the trademarks shown below (the “Trademarks”). A license from the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation is required if you want to use any of these logos. License eligibility requirements are discussed in detail below. Please contact Christine Long (christi@beagleboard.org) if you are interested in obtaining a license and/or have any questions regarding these trademarks.

Third party use of the Trademarks is only permitted as indicated below. You may not use any of these trademarks without written approval from the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation.

These trademarks are reserved for official products of BeagleBoard.org®, such as the BeagleBoard®, BeagleBone®, and PocketBeagle® product families. Use of these trademarks is reserved for a select group of products and contractual partners of BeagleBoard.org®.

 

“BeagleBoard” (text)

The “BeagleBoard” trademark refers to a product family of BeagleBoard.org®. Use of this trademark is reserved for a select group of contractual partners of BeagleBoard.org® that manufacture/distribute the BeagleBoard® line of products.

 

“BeagleBone” (text)

The “BeagleBone” trademark refers to a product family of BeagleBoard.org®. Use of this trademark is reserved for a select group of contractual partners of BeagleBoard.org® that manufacture/distribute the BeagleBone® line of products.

 

“PocketBeagle” (text)

The “PocketBeagle” trademark refers to a product family of BeagleBoard.org®. Use of this trademark is reserved for a select group of contractual partners of BeagleBoard.org® that manufacture/distribute the PocketBeagle® line of products.

 

“BeagleBoard Compliant” logo

 

This trademark is intended for a circuit board that is manufactured using an un-modified version of an open-source hardware design for an official product of BeagleBoard.org® (e.g., a product from the BeagleBoard®, BeagleBone®, and PocketBeagle® product families). The product upon which a “BeagleBoard Compliant” circuit board is based will be referred to as the “product of origin” below.

 

For a circuit board to be eligible for a license for this trademark, the following requirements must be fulfilled:

- the circuit board is identical in technical design and functionality with the product of origin;

- the circuit board fully supports and ships with an installed copy of a version of software designated by the BeagleBoard.org Foundation for the product of origin;

- the circuit board has been tested by the BeagleBoard.org Foundation (or its designated representative(s)) and has passed the testing;

- all source code and hardware design for the circuit board must be released using one or more open source licenses approved by the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation;

- you agree to indemnify and defend the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation against any claim arising out of the circuit board;

- you agree to be responsible for all hardware support of the circuit board, and to provide return merchandise authorization for the circuit board via your website; and

- you agree that the “BeagleBoard Compliant” logo will not be separately used with any peripherals without the express approval of the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation.

 

“BeagleBoard Compatible” (logo)

 

This trademark is intended for a circuit board that uses a modified version of an open-source hardware design for an official product of BeagleBoard.org® (e.g., a product from the BeagleBoard®, BeagleBone®, and PocketBeagle® product families). The product upon which a “BeagleBoard Compatible” circuit board is based will be referred to as a “product of origin” below.

 

For a circuit board to be eligible for a license for this trademark, the following requirements must be fulfilled:

- the circuit board is manufactured from a modified version of the hardware design of the product of origin;

- the circuit board fully supports and ships with an installed copy of a version of software designated by the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation for the product of origin;

- the circuit board has been tested by the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation (or its designated representative(s)) and has passed the testing;

- all source code and hardware design for the circuit board must be released using one or more open source licenses approved by the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation;

- you agree to indemnify and defend the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation against any claim arising out of the circuit board;

- you agree to be responsible for all hardware support of the circuit board, and to provide return merchandise authorization for the circuit board via your website; and

- you agree that the “BeagleBoard Compatible” logo will not be separately used with any peripherals without the express approval of the BeagleBoard.org Foundation.

 

“BeagleBoard.org Approved” (logo)

 

This trademark is intended for peripheral devices for official products of BeagleBoard.org® (e.g., the BeagleBoard®, BeagleBone®, and PocketBeagle® product families). The official BeagleBoard.org® product with which a “BeagleBoard Approved” peripheral device is intended to be used will be referred to as an “accessorized product” below.

 

For a peripheral device to be eligible for a license for this trademark, the following requirements must be fulfilled:

- the peripheral device has been tested by the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation (or its designated representative(s)) for use with the accessorized product and has passed the testing;

- the peripheral device has been determined by the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation (or its designated representative(s)) to provide a satisfactory “out-of-box” experience for users for use with the accessorized product;

 - all source code and/or hardware design for the peripheral device must be released using one or more open source licenses approved by the BeagleBoard.org® Foundation; and

- if a license is granted for the peripheral device, any future revised version of the peripheral device must be approved by BeagleBoard.org® before the “BeagleBoard.org Approved” logo may be used in connection with the revised version.
