[00:02:52] <ds2> 3000 heads?! how big is the greenhouse?
[00:02:53] <thews> I had about 2.5lbs of dill
[00:03:18] <thews> about 150 sq ft
[00:04:39] <thews> I did a DIY wet wall for negative pressure evaporation to bring the temps down in the summers so lettuce won't bolt
[00:05:01] <thews> http://i.imgur.com/S9vfTP3.jpg
[00:05:54] <thews> and I use 55% UV blocking film to help keep it shaded
[00:06:16] <ds2> that is pretty efficient...150 is smaller then a bed room
[00:06:19] <thews> I started all of this on the late part of this summer though
[00:06:38] <thews> doing NFT rails you can go somewhat vertical with lettuce too
[00:06:40] <ds2> couldn't you just make the crops seasonal?
[00:06:54] <thews> I could, but everyones seasonal crops die year round here
[00:06:54] <thews> :D
[00:06:56] <thews> hahahaha
[00:07:02] <ds2> lettuce/cilantro and other bolting crops in the winter
[00:07:13] <thews> our weather is too extreme
[00:07:13] <ds2> then do nonbolting crops in the summer
[00:07:32] <ds2> no, not that seasonal...seasonal enough to avoid bolting problems
[00:07:35] <thews> it gets to nearly 120F some days here during the summer
[00:07:44] <thews> well
[00:07:45] <thews> for example
[00:07:52] <ds2> most nightshades will tolerate 120F if there is enough water, AFAIK
[00:08:10] <thews> we had two weeks freezing, and then yesterday I went out in the greenhouse and it was 94F
[00:08:14] <thews> had to turn the fans on
[00:08:27] <thews> most winter lettuces will bolt if they have sustained temps above 80
[00:08:51] <ds2> that's sensitive
[00:09:26] <thews> butter crunch and romaine are terrible about bolting
[00:09:29] <ds2> this is where the BBB comes in?
[00:09:38] <thews> yeah, but I might be moving soon
[00:09:50] <thews> so I've kind of lost my focus on keeping working on it
[00:09:55] <ds2> fancy! I stick with stuff like iceberg :D
[00:10:13] <thews> I mostly grow black seeded simpson because it is very bolt tolerant
[00:10:28] <thews> for a thicker lettuce anyhow
[00:11:26] <thews> we grow a lot of other lettuces
[00:11:31] <ds2> at least your area gets cold enough for greens :P
[00:11:45] <ds2> we get like 3 months of wx out here that can do greens

[03:51:39] <prpplague> rongweigh: so you may want to re-evaluate what your are trying to accomplish and make sure you have the "right tool for the right job"
[03:54:57] <rongweigh> prpplague: i was was using "standard fef" to generically refer to non-HD as i can use low res and any codec container if i need to.
[03:56:06] <rongweigh> prpplague: i was under the impression that it had video/dsp in mind since it has a camera peripheral available for it

[04:00:25] <prpplague> rongweigh: yes, you can generally playback 720p video with reasonable performance as long as all of the pieces are there

[06:01:12] <rongweigh> in order to maximize the usefulness, you have to stick with a 2.6 kernel.
[06:03:15] <rongweigh> i had unfortunately thought that usefulness of the hardware would have increased over time as developers became more enabled to exploit the hardware, but i didn't take into account th dependence on closed source software. and now, i realize that i have another hamstrung piece of hardware because of my oversight.

[06:05:44] <av500> pvr does not help to decode video
[06:05:47] <av500> what HW are you on?
[06:05:57] <av500> ah XM
[06:06:17] <av500> there is nothing needed to get "neon acceleration" working
[06:06:23] <av500> NEON is part of the CPU
[06:06:26] <av500> DSP is tricky
[06:07:24] <rongweigh> right; pvr is 3d only. neon is a cpu extension, but needs a functional xorg driver to access, and dsp is a physical chip with an api
[06:07:42] <av500> neon does not need xorg drivers
[06:08:14] <rongweigh> sorry, that is true.
[06:08:43] <rongweigh> to have xorg use 2d acceleration via the neon extensions, xorg drivers are neeeded
[06:09:06] <av500> well yes, maybe
[06:09:16] <av500> but you dont need all that to decode SD video
[06:09:28] <av500> you can do all the resizing in hardware
[06:09:37] <av500> decode on ARM or DSP
[06:09:41] <av500> let the HW display it
[06:09:46] <av500> no need for xorg or PVR
[06:09:59] <rongweigh> using omapfb?
[06:10:07] <av500> v4l2
[06:10:17] <av500> that worked nicely a few years back
[06:10:27] <av500> 2.6.32ish
[06:10:56] <rongweigh> yeah. i actually just imaged to that and it does indeed work
[06:11:54] <av500> good
[06:11:58] <rongweigh> i received the device sans sdcard, so i went with rcn's ubuntu install and ended up in a slog of kernel/driver/userspace madness
[06:12:33] <av500> the omap3 is really bandwith limited
[06:12:48] <av500> so doing anything more than pure decode and display by HW does not really help
[06:13:00] <av500> like shuffling the pixels into X
[06:13:05] <av500> or with the sgx
[06:13:05] <rongweigh> that's all i need for this project, really
[06:13:08] <av500> so
[06:13:12] <av500> go with it
[06:13:15] <rongweigh> hell, i can even drop frames
[06:13:37] <av500> every time you do that a hollywood director dies

[10:02:17] <LetoThe2nd> (at /usr/bin/dtc, for the protocol)

[10:13:57] <LetoThe2nd> the "tue, dec 17 2013" just is irritating. where did you get the image from?
[10:14:55] <cityLights> beaglebone website, then ran opkg update
[10:15:27] <cityLights> sure wish I could have run gentoo on it, as I need the wireless to work
[10:15:42] <cityLights> and angstrom has little info on how to get this to work
[10:16:53] <LetoThe2nd> can you please give us link to what you downloaded?
[10:17:12] <cityLights> sure
[10:20:01] <cityLights> I try to go to http://beagleboard.org/latest-images
[10:20:09] <cityLights> I get: Error in application beagle
[10:20:09] <cityLights> Maximum Thread count reached.
[10:20:16] <cityLights> site is down now
[10:21:01] <LetoThe2nd> cityLights: well that image linked there has date "2013.06.20" - which does not really match the 2013-12-17 in your uname. or did i get something wrong?
[10:21:26] <LetoThe2nd> and the flasher has 2013-09-04.
[10:22:38] <cityLights> looking
[10:23:18] <LetoThe2nd> so my initial guess would be that reflashing a proper image might help.
[10:23:45] <cityLights> I see.
[10:24:03] <cityLights> the image is on a microsd, far from here
[10:24:22] <cityLights> ok, can you provide a link to the right image?
[10:25:15] <LetoThe2nd> i don't know what the most up to date image ATM is, on beagleboard.org it says: https://s3.amazonaws.com/angstrom/demo/beaglebone/BBB-eMMC-flasher-2013.09.04.img.xz
[10:27:08] <cityLights> BBB-eMMC-flasher-v2013.12-2013.12.07.img.xz
[10:27:34] <cityLights> need I provide a link as well?
[10:28:24] <LetoThe2nd> well i see that image *nowhere* mentioned.
[10:28:49] <Andy1978> I have a BeagleBoard-xM and installed Debian via netinstall as described here: http://www.elinux.org/BeagleBoardDebian after that I tried to use my leopard camera LI-5M03CS with mt9p031.
[10:28:57] <cityLights> ok, I am getting the image yu suggested
[10:29:51] <Andy1978> I had a look at /proc/modules and saw, that the mt9p031 isn't built in the used kernel. After that I descided to build the Kernel on my own with mt9p031 as described here http://eewiki.net/display/linuxonarm/BeagleBoard
[10:30:36] <Andy1978> The build was successful and I installed the resulting *.deb on my BeagleBoard but after reboot, uname still shows the "old" 3.7.10" kernel
[10:30:40] <cityLights> LetoThe2nd: ok, I will get back after upgrading the software
[10:31:01] <cityLights> who can help me with connecting to usb wireless
[10:31:02] <cityLights> ?
[10:31:14] <Andy1978> how do I enable the new installed kernel? I had a look in uEnv.txt but didn't figure out how to tell uboot to load the new kernel
[10:32:35] <LetoThe2nd> cityLights: can't help you with wifi particulary, but i think the older kernels still have some issues with usb. that might be a reason why someone provided you with a newer image - which is not bad per se, but the image seems to be lacking dtc. thats why i wonder from where it came.
