Powering the Internet of Things with Dart, BeagleBone and Debian

Remember what life was like before the internet? before the World Wide Web? before smart phones? Everyone who remembers those days of 20 years ago will agree, life was very different. The rate of innovation and promise of future development is even greater today. It’s likely we’ll see twice as much change in half the time in the years ahead.

One area of recent rapid development is the “Internet of Things” – aka IoT. This term means different things to different people, but it’s really a simple equation

IoT => software + hardware + networks = connected smart things.[1]

For software, Dart is right at the center of the latest evolution of the internet. It’s a remarkable software language and environment (https://www.dartlang.org/). Never before has one language provided so many features suitable to a network connected world. A recent survey estimated that about half of all Dart developers are using the language on both client/browser AND server applications. That statistic alone marks a real revolution in software development methodologies.
