  • [08:22:23] <av500> well, how do they check other PCBs that they make?
  • [08:22:29] * Guest62384 is now known as russell--
  • [08:22:32] <av500> or they dont
  • [08:23:03] <LetoThe2nd> GMaroto: well, checking your assembly is a bit the knowledge of the manufacturer, or you. its a bit of the special knowledge thats not for free ;)
  • [08:23:36] <GMar> they check the board with an AOI (Automated optical inspection)
  • [08:24:09] <LetoThe2nd> no magic there.
  • [08:24:12] <GMar> the problem with the BBB is the 3 chips with BGA
  • [08:24:47] <LetoThe2nd> you can 1) xray them 2) ignore 3) trust them that they know how to do things.
  • [08:24:55] <LetoThe2nd> its up to you.
  • [08:25:29] <LetoThe2nd> if becoming a board vendor whould just need to go to some irc channel and everybody would hand out all manufacturing knowledge, wouldn't we all be board vendors?
  • [08:25:48] <av500> many PCBs these days are BGA
  • [08:26:00] <av500> if BGA is problems for your manufacturer, I would pick another one
  • [08:26:05] <av500> is a problem*
  • [08:26:21] <LetoThe2nd> av500 obviously votes for option 3) ;)

  • [08:28:27] <av500> BGA is usually not "tested" for consumer stuff
  • [08:28:38] <av500> you make a few, check they work and then keep the process
  • [08:28:49] <av500> then you do high level tests

  • [08:35:27] <LetoThe2nd> we all know that selling BBBs for funny prices seems like an easy way to make money this time. but really: there's a little bit more to it than just downloading the open data and hire a chines factory to produce it.
